Summary:

Arriving in the United States in 1840, Hannah Hannigan dreams of making a better life for her and her family. In Hannah, The Journey Continues, she and her husband Seamus are faced with a series of tragedies. Yet, it is through perseverance and dogged determination Hannah rises above adversity, to fulfill her dreams. Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to celebrate, Bishop Doheny looked out at the audience, then slowly continued, with thanksgiving to God for the gift of life. Thanksgiving? How can that be? What gift of life? . . . they are dead. She held her rosary. Mary F. Twitty was born in Chicago and attended DePaul University. She is a mother and grandmother. After retiring from the U.S. House of Representatives as a Special Assistant to two different Members of Congress, she now resides in South Florida. This is her fifth novel. The others are: Hannahs Journey; Selective Discretion; Ashley Visits Urchin Village; and, I, Jude. Hannah, The Journey Continues, is an odyssey about Hannah Hannigan and her Irish family immigrating to America in 1840. Hannah, a strong-willed, determined woman, and her husband Seamus, the gentle rock of the family, settles in Boston and become outstanding citizens and pillars of the community. Cholera strikes and more than 500 immigrants die, but through sheer tenacity Hannah obtains 160 acres for 80 families who survived. In every instance of conflict, she overcomes, but two she cannot, until a new life arrives. I will read it again for the pleasure of being a part of this family. Margaret Mary Cuthrell Poet and Memoirist In the great tradition of family sagas, Hannah, The Journey Continues, tells of the struggle of generations of immigrants to make a better life in the new world. Hannah Hannigan, the stern matriarch of her family, carries a secret from her past she believes can destroy her and her family. Yet, Hannah builds on tragedy and adversity, to make a new life, and never leaves the rich traditions of her roots far behind. Mary F. Twitty has given us the perfect poetic blend of the old and the new, the values of a treasured past she skillfully weaves into the new life of Hannah and Seamus in the United States. Summary:

Not only is Doctor Who the longest-running science fiction TV show in history, but it has also been translated into numerous languages, broadcast around the world, and referred to as the “way of the future” by some British politicians. The Classic Doctor Who series built up a loyal American cult following, with regular conventions and other activities. The new series, relaunched in 2005, has emerged from culthood into mass awareness, with a steadily growing viewership and major sales of DVDs. The current series, featuring the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, is breaking all earlier records, in both the UK and the US. Doctor Who is a continuing story about the adventures of a mysterious alien known as “the Doctor,” a traveller of both time and space whose spacecraft is the TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimensions in Space), which from the outside looks like a British police telephone box of the 1950s. The TARDIS is “bigger on the inside than on the outside”—actually the interior is immense. The Doctor looks human, but has two hearts, and a knowledge of all languages in the universe. Periodically, when the show changes the leading actor, the Doctor “regenerates.”

Summary:

Thirty years ago, the Gaelic language and culture which had been eminent in Scotland for 1,300 years seemed to be in the final stages of a 200-year terminal decline. The number of Gaelic speakers in Scotland had fallen tenfold over the previous century. The language itself was commonplace only in the scattered communities of the north-west Highlands and Hebrides.By the early years of the 21st century, however, a sea-change had taken place. Gaelic - for so long a subject of mockery and hostility - had become what some termed 'fashionable'. Gaelic-speaking jobs were available; Gaelic-medium education was established in many areas; and politicians and business-people saw benefits in acting as friends of the culture. While the numbers of Gaelic-speakers continued to fall as older people passed away, the decline was slowed and for the first time in 100 years the percentage of young people using the language began to rise proportionately. What had happened was a kind of renaissance: a Gaelic revival that manifested itself in popular music, literature, art, poetry, publishing, drama, radio and television. It was a phenomenon as obvious as it was unexpected. And at the heart of that movement lay education. A Gaelic Modern History will tell the story of one institution, Sabhal Mor Ostaig, the Gaelic College in Skye that has stood at the centre of this revival. But, chiefly, the book will examine how a venerable culture was given hope for the future at the point when all seemed lost. It recounts the scores of personalities, from Sorley Maclean and Runrig to Michael Forsyth and Gordon Brown, who have become involved in that process.
