Having returned to his home county of Dorset he is unable to resist becoming involved in the investigation into a brutal double murder in the Purbeck hills. Soon, however, he is at odds with the police's official lines of enquiry. Having rekindled a friendship with an eccentric, disfigured but brilliant friend, Sandra, he follows his own instincts. Jena Nardella, cofounder of Blood:Water and one of Christianity Today’s 33 Under 33, shares a “captivatingly honest” (Publishers Weekly) account of how her passion for saving the world grew into a humbler, long-term calling of loving the world in all its brokenness in this beautifully written memoir. Ten years ago, Jena Lee Nardella was a fresh-out-of-college, twenty-something with the lofty goal of truly changing the world. Armed with a diploma, a thousand dollars, and a dream to build one thousand wells in Africa, she joined forces with Grammy Award–winning band Jars of Clay to found Blood:Water and begin her mission. Jena’s dream for her nonprofit turned that initial $1 into $20, and then $100, and today into more than $25 million. Working throughout eleven countries in Africa, Blood:Water has provided healthcare for over 62,000 people in HIV-affected areas and has partnered with communities to provide clean water for more than one million people in Africa. But along the way she faced many harsh realities that have tested her faith, encountered corruption and brokenness that nearly destroyed everything she’d fought for, and learned that wishful thinking will not get you very far. Jena discovered true change comes only when you stop trying to save the world and allow yourself to love it, even when it breaks your heart. With a fresh, intelligent, and winsome voice, Jena Lee Nardella weaves an evocative, personal narrative filled with honest and hard-won lessons that demonstrate the amazing things that can happen when you fight for your dreams.

"When I finished this novel, I knew I would be haunted and empowered by Artemisia Gentileschi's story for the rest of my life."--Amanda Lovelace, bestselling author of the princess saves herself in this one A William C. Morris Debut Award Finalist 2018 National Book Award Longlist Her mother died when she was twelve, and suddenly Artemisia Gentileschi had a stark choice: a life as a nun in a convent or a life grinding pigment for her father's paint. She chose paint. By the time she was seventeen, Artemisia did more than grind pigment. She was one of Rome's most talented painters, even if no one knew her name. But Rome in 1610 was a city where men took what they wanted from women, and in the aftermath of rape Artemisia faced another terrible choice: a life of silence or a life of truth, no matter the cost. He will not consume my every thought. I am a painter. I will paint. Joy McCullough's bold novel in verse is a portrait of an artist as a young woman, filled with the soaring highs of creative inspiration and the devastating setbacks of a system built to break her. McCullough weaves Artemisia's heartbreaking story with the stories of the ancient heroines, Susanna and Judith, who become not only the subjects of two of Artemisia's most famous paintings but sources of strength as she battles to paint a woman's timeless truth in the face of unspeakable and all-too-familiar violence. I will show you what a woman can do. ★"A captivating and impressive."--Booklist, starred review ★"Belongs on every YA shelf."--SLJ, starred review ★"Haunting."--Publishers Weekly, starred review ★"Luminous."--Shelf Awareness, starred review

The Indus basin was once an arid pastoral watershed, but by the second half of the twentieth century, it had become one of the world's most heavily irrigated and populated river basins. Launched under British colonial rule in the nineteenth century, this irrigation project spurred political, social, and environmental transformations that continued after the 1947 creation of the new states of India and Pakistan. In this first large-scale environmental history of the region, David Gilmartin focuses on the changes that occurred in the basin as a result of the implementation of the world's largest modern integrated irrigation system. This masterful work of scholarship explores how environmental transformation is tied to the creation of communities and nations, focusing on the intersection of politics, statecraft, and the environment.

The media extols the health benefits of good nutrition and physical activity. Since exercise and sport is becoming a bigger concern to the general public and not just elite athletes, the interest in research in this field is growing. Macroelements, Water and Electrolytes in Sport Nutrition addresses the relationship of macroelement needs and interactions to sports and exercise. Research indicates that work capacity and other measures of physical performance are influenced by the intake of water as well as several of the macroelements, including electrolytes. This book examines the convincing, and the not so convincing, evidence about the connection between exercise and sports activities and the nutrient status of individuals. Written by individuals from various academic disciplines, the book is a comprehensive, indispensable resource for scientists and practitioners with an interest in sports nutrition. It provides a review of topics related to water, macroelements, and exercise as well as identifies gaps in our knowledge, encouraging researchers to build upon the existing knowledge and advance our understanding of sport nutrition.

One of the most significant features of the Fourth Gospel is its unique version of the crucifixion of Jesus (19:12-42). A full understanding of the central section of this scene, the depiction of Jesus' death and the details immediately surrounding (19:31-37), depends on the interpretation of the verse that recounts the piercing of his side and the flow of blood and water (19:34). Yet, there has never been a clear consensus as to the meaning of this verse. This difficulty is not insurmountable, as the solution becomes apparent when one lends an attentive ear to the voice of the narrator. The event described in verse 34 is explicitly declared by the narrator in verse 37 to be the fulfillment of a "Scripture passage" that says, "They shall look at him whom they have pierced." It is, therefore, to that Scripture, Zechariah 12:10, that the author directs his audience for the meaning of this occurrence, and it is then from the literary context of the Zechariah passage that we can come to understand better this Gospel's account of the death of Jesus.

Several speakers from Europe and the United States were invited to present the different aspects. A vast range of areas was discussed in relation to toxicological modeling and risk assessment, such as occupational toxicology and biomonitoring, exposure to organic solvents and crop protection products, dose-response relations in carcinogenicity, regulatory toxicology, estimation of dermal penetration, uptake and disposition of organic chemicals in fish, the possibilities of in vitro methods in hazard and risk assessment, and the extrapolation between animal and human species. Based on their presentations, the speakers prepared comprehensive papers for this symposium book, reflecting the state of the art of modeling and toxicological risk assessment at the beginning of the third millennium.

"What did he say?" "He made himself equal with God!" "This blasphemer must die!" There were many who heard what he said and stopped following him because his teaching was offensive to them. Today many do not know what he actually said and often his words are ignored or misrepresented. The history of the church is one of divisions over what he taught and many counterfeit accounts of his teaching have gained acceptance. This account will surprise and perhaps even shock many. What did he look like? What did he teach about heaven and hell? What happens to us when we die? What day did he die on? What caused his death? What day did he rise from the dead? Why will he return? What was his message in one short sentence? We have got it all wrong
