Summary:

Summary:

Tea Party Teddy is a political tell-all novel about Sacramento, California politics - the public corruption, infidelity, and greed. Teddy, a newly elected Assemblyman, is elected because of his hateful anti-immigration platform. When he gets to Sacramento, he struggles with the temptations that ultimate power affords. His world slowly unravels as he succumbs to the power of his office. The ultimate irony occurs when his wife becomes romantically involved with the founder of the Republicans for Latinos. This is the book Sacramento politicians said shouldn't be written. Although the characters are fictional, the events and places are well-known to Dianne Harman, wife of a former California State Assemblyman and Senator. She is the author of Blue Coyote Motel, a quarter finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest, and a Goodreads Psychological Thriller Book of the Month.

Summary:

This collection of essays studies the cultural and literary contexts of narrative texts produced in English Canada over the last forty years. It takes as its starting point the nationalist movement of the 1960s and 70s, when the supposed absence or weakness of a national sense became the touchstone for official discourses on the cultural identity of the country. That type of metaphor provided the nation with the distinctive elements it was looking for and contributed to the creation of a sense of tradition that has survived to the present. In the decades following the 1970s, however, critics, artists, and writers have repeatedly questioned such a model of national identity, still fragile and in need of articulation, by reading the nation from alternative perspectives such as multiculturalism, environmentalism, (neo)regionalism, feminism, or postcolonialism. These contributors suggest that the artistic and cultural flowering Canada is experiencing at the beginning of the twenty-first century is, to a great extent, based on the dismantlement of the images constructed to represent the nation only forty years ago. Through their readings of representative primary texts, their contextual analysis, and their selected methodological tools, the authors offer a tapestry of alternative approaches to that process of dismantlement. Together, they read as an unruly Penelopiad, their unravelling readings self-consciously interrogating Canada’s (lack of) ghosts.

Summary:

Expecting high adventure, a widow naively moves to Colorado and marries a widower, owner of Poco Reino, a small ranch in the mountain-clad San Luis Valley. Both have young children: she, a 13-year-old son; he, a 6-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter. From day one -- with no prior experience -- the author turns into a stepmother and ranch hand. The results: often disastrous, other times quite funny. Close encounters with animals she's only seen or driven by before leave her screaming in terror, or feigning bravery beyond the call of duty. "Me, touch a chicken?" "There's a snake on my windshield!" The livestock sale barn, learning to ride a horse, raising a brood of 65 fancy-breed chickens provide surprising awakenings. And she never expected to be tramping in the mountains with a husband who is first, a biologist, and second (she discovers), a part-time rancher. The children share the adventure. Their fun, and not-so-much fun, activities are described thoughout. "Women are still pioneering -- and still venturing West."

Summary:

Summary:

A Little More Luck-and a lot more laughs-continues the wonderful globetrotting lifestyle of Frank and Maria Nelson. Three years after leaving their adopted home in New Zealand, and armed now with freshly-minted American green cards, the pair settle down for a year in Colorado. In the city of Boulder, the newly arrived journalists and nurses find themselves grappling with such slippery customers as political correctness, prairie dogs, the tax man, the effects of altitude and more trashy television channels than can possibly be good for you. Next the nomadic Nelsons return to England for 10 more months of hilarious house and pet-sitting with Animal Aunts-plenty long enough to appreciate that when it comes to the British and their animals, it's not just the dogs that are barking. Frank and Maria also find time to explore France and Spain besides taking trips to New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Mexico. Finally it's back to the States, this time to check out those crazy Californians in sunny San Diego. World travel as a way of life is a hell of a job, but somebody's got to do it "This very funny sequel to All You Need is Luck crackles with dry British humour and will delight travellers the world over." Summary:

» Publishers Weekly
