The response to Nancy Pearl’s surprise bestseller Book Lust was astounding: the Seattle librarian even became the model for the now-famous Librarian Action Figure. Readers everywhere welcomed Pearl’s encyclopedic but discerning filter on books worth reading, and her Rule of 50 (give a book 50 pages before deciding whether to continue; but readers over 50 must read the same number of pages as their age) became a standard MO.

Take a wild but spiritually eye-opening ride through the pages of the Bible and learn the stories they don’t teach in Sunday school. In this work, Paul Kasch is not afraid to offer sound commentary on the R-rated and X-rated content found in the scriptures. After all, it is all part of God’s Word. You will come away from this text spiritually charged, understanding that God did not always use perfect people to accomplish His will. That means he can even use the likes of you and me. A bit of warning, however: You might be absolutely blown away by the stories of some of the people whom the Christ genealogy came through. This 30,000+ word e-book has been professionally edited and specially formatted for all devices. We promise a smooth electronic reading experience, complete with a clickable table of contents. Seasoned Bible students will have a great time and discover new insights into the heart of God, while new Bible students will likely be both shocked and delighted.

Summary:

The title of this book, Lust Emotions & Mixed Reactions, was supposed to be the title for my first album, had I pursued my passion and love for music. Needless to say, I have given that dream a rest. For while I may be brilliant with words, and gifted at composing, I am seemingly not as talented a singer as I am a speaker, to my very sad regret. I had three options: one was to put out B grade music and an album and embarrass myself, another was to be selfish and keep the talent that I had hidden from the world rather than dare let another sing them and the third was to use my talent with words in another way where I could share with the world all that I have within me that I felt they needed to hear. I chose the latter. Hence the existence of this book today. Some of my passion, my thoughts, my pain, my hurt, my philosophies, my love, my anger, my ego, my disgust, my character, my lust, my emotions and my own reactions among other aspects of myself are expressed within this book. Some are mere thoughts that I desired to share and some are things I am deeply passionate about. Still, some are songs written a long time ago and the books burnt after a heartbreak, thus they were never recorded. Some of what is written in this book was born out of experiences and others were born out of a poetic spirit that struck me suddenly. Some are extraordinary, and some may be average. However, all are a part of me and they are the parts that I have no problem admitting to and sharing with the world. From this publication I anticipate questions, judgement even, about what is real and what is not. I am not now, nor may I ever be prepared to own up to everything in this book. Some are my experiences while some are my fantasies. I hope you have a fine time guessing, judging and making assumptions about them all. This book was written over a seven year period. Seven years of lust and emotions is bound to get some mixed reactions from a diverse population of free-thinkers. Do enjoy this book, my debut.

Summary:

Lust, says Simon Blackburn, is furtive, headlong, always sizing up opportunities. It is a trail of clothing in the hallway, the trashy cousin of love. But be that as it may, the aim of this delightful book is to rescue lust "from the denunciations of old men of the deserts, to deliver it from the pallid and envious confessor and the stocks and pillories of the Puritans, to drag it from the category of sin to that of virtue." Blackburn, author of such popular philosophy books as Think and Being Good, here offers a sharp-edged probe into the heart of lust, blending together insight from some of the world's greatest thinkers on sex, human nature, and our common cultural foibles. Blackburn takes a wide ranging, historical approach, discussing lust as viewed by Aristophanes and Plato, lust in the light of the Stoic mistrust of emotion, and the Christian fear of the flesh that catapulted lust to the level of deadly sin. He describes how philosophical pessimists like Schopenhauer and Sartre contributed to our thinking about lust and explores the false starts in understanding lust represented by Freud, Kinsey, and modern "evolutionary psychology." But most important, Blackburn reminds us that lust is also life-affirming, invigorating, fun. He points to the work of David Hume (Blackburn's favorite philosopher) who saw lust not only as a sensual delight but also "a joy of the mind." Written by one of the most eminent living philosophers, attractively illustrated and colorfully packaged, Lust is a book that anyone would lust over.
